The first thing you should do is ask your nearby friends who are pet parents which veterinarian they would recommend. Do a little research and choose someone you feel you can trust to give you good advice in the best interest of the dog.
Also locate the phone number of the nearest emergency vet and put it somewhere that you will easily be able to find it. If you stop in and say hi, they may even be able to give you a magnetic business card for your fridge so it will always be handy. Remember if your kids are old enough, to also explain to them where they can find the number and what to do if an emergency situation happened involving your dog.
The next thing to look into would be their food supply. You will want to locate 2 places that carry your preferred kibble in case one runs out, especially in 2020.
Then discuss with your family how you plan to tackle establishing a toileting routine for your puppy, behavioural training (as well as what you will and will not allow so that there is consistency with everyone in the home), and finally things like grooming and exercise.
Then just prepare your heart for a whole lot of love!
